Welcome back to the dungeons for our first lab this year. This year we will continue with our healing potions but first let´s open the books and learn about Headaches and Migraines

Potions 302. Migraine or Yours?
Migraine Management Serum

Migraine headaches describe severe, chronic headaches that are often on one side of the head only. In fact, the name migraine came from the Greek hemikrania, which means “half skull.” Migraines are considered neurological disorders, and as well as the oft debilitating headaches, frequently come with light sensitivity, nausea and even vomiting. Many who suffer from migraines find themselves incapable of functioning or working when they come down with one of these headaches. There are four classified stages of a migraine, although not every migraine displays each of these stages every time. Potions exist that help manage symptoms throughout each of the four phases, as well as preventative potions that can often preclude full-blown migraines from developing.

When treating a migraine, it is preferable to try to catch it before it progresses to full-blown headache, light sensitivity, and nausea. Most witches and wizards who suffer from migraines keep a supply of Migraine Management Serum and Prodromal Preventative Potion with them in case they feel a migraine coming along
The most common ingredients used in most of these potions include frozen Ashwinder eggs, dried rose petals, lavender oil and bat spleens

Migraine Management Serum

Ingredients:                                                              Muggle ingredients
Seven hundred and fifty (750) ml water                           water
Forty five (45) ml lavender oil                                         lavender essence                                Two (2) frozen ashwinder eggs
Four (4) dried rose petals
Two (2) Shrake spines
Thirty (30) ml vanilla extract
Thirty (30) ml Flobberworm mucus

Instructions:

- Bring 100 ml of water
- Add 30ml of lavender oil to the cauldron.
- Add 30ml of vanilla extract to the cauldron.
- Stir twice counter-clockwise.
- Add one whole frozen Ashwinder egg to the cauldron.
- Add four dried rose petals and two Shrake spines to your mortar and crush it finely with the pestle.
- Add two tablespoons of the finely crushed mixture to the cauldron.
- Stir once clockwise.

The potion should be a deep orange in color at the end. It has a slightly sweet-smoky taste similar to burnt cinnamon, and smells a bit like shortbread.

To Use: Five to seven droplets should be taken in the early stages before the onset of a migraine. The potion can be taken directly on the tongue, or it can be added to a beverage such as tea, juice, or water.

Effects: During the prodromal and aura stages of a migraine, the Migraine Management Serum can be taken to manage and mitigate the onset of the migraine. The potion is largely ineffective once the attack stage of the migraine has begun, but it has been known to alleviate some of the symptoms even during this stage.
